What is a decision support tool?
- •A decision support tool (such as a booklet or a website) is a resource to help people learn more about different treatment options for a specific health condition.
- •In addition to providing information, these tools can also help you think about what is important to you and your loved ones when considering the pros and cons of different treatment options.
- •Decision support tools are not meant to replace your doctor but can be helpful when you discuss the ways you want to manage your cancer with your care team including concerns or questions that you might have.
What is the purpose of the COAST tool?
There are many considerations when deciding about how to manage your cancer. COAST was developed by a team of clinicians and researchers at NYP-Weill Cornell Medicine, NYP-Queens and NYP-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital with input from patient advocates and community partners. COAST is meant to help you think about what is most important to you when it comes to managing your cancer and to help you share information about your preferences with your care team.
